So, this is what I have so far from this site:

Goodbean: 4 kids

Joanne: 5 (4 kids + 1 adult)

Farmingmama: 4 (3 kids + 1 adult)

4littlecanadians: 5 (4 kids + 1 adult)

I believe there will be two additional families joining us, so at least 8 more children and 2 more adults.  It looks like it will be a good size group!

If I don't have this correct let me know.  If I forgot anyone, let me know.  If anyone else wants to join in, let me know. smile

The cost is 8.00 per child.  Adults are free.  I will fill out the registration form on Monday and send it off by Tuesday to give everyone time if there are any changes/additions.

Alicia,

The boys would LOVE that.  Thanks for your welcoming spirit, ladies.  What a blessing!

OK we are in!!  5 (me included) plus two beans!  Our oldest wanted to bring the youngest bean but then remembered she isn't lactating. :) Thanks sooo much Sherry for organizing.

Thanks for organizing Sherry!

We'll go for sure. So for us it will be 1 adult, 3 children.

Bonnie, if your older two would like to come also, I'd be more than happy to pick them up and have them with us for the day :)

Joanne,

Would you want to take Tobin and Sunny?  We'd get them to your place by the time you'd want to leave.  No pressure ;)

I can organize it if you'd all like.

I've been in contact with the coordinator over the past couple of days.  She said we should get a group together and then send in one cheque for the total amount.  This would be much easier for her logistically.  If we mail it in to her within the next week, we should be okay for getting in, but she can't guarantee it.  So, that doesn't leave us much time to ask around.

She did re-iterate that although homeschooling families are welcome to participate, comments in the past have said that those children outside the grade 4 level window by quite a bit (I'm assuming more than 2 years on either side of grade 4) have found the workshops/stations to be too easy or too hard.  So, families should be mindful of this if there is a large age range of children.

We would go through the various workshop stations as a group.  It sounds like a great day!

So, if anyone is interested in attending this event, if you could let me know in the next couple of days.  We can organize the money and I can send a cheque out a.s.a.p.

Sherry

I think if we had an organizer, that person could call down and ask questions directly for this year.  I believe they would just put us through as a classroom.  I bet our group would be big enough.  Our three families plus an extra little one in Thorndale make 14 I think. I would like to take a full van if possible (maybe there are some bigger 'beans' that would like to go - so that would be two more.)

We would definitely be up for this!  We are not currently studying the Medieval times but my oldest 2 did when they were in grade 4 and loved it.  Nathan is also asking lots of questions about it as well and would really enjoy it.

Sherry, do you think we could get a group organized?  I think you mentioned that Tracy's family is doing Medieval times too?  They might be interested.  We could even contact the other homeschooling group that we went to the police station with to see if they are interested?  Just a thought.

Joanne, do you know if there is a minimum group size that we must reach?  Or how they would want us to apply for homeschoolers?

Hi Joanne,

We definitely would love to attend this as we are currently studying the Middle Ages.  Thanks for this info!

This is the text from an email I received about the festival "Robin In The Hood".  I have never been before.  I spoke with them last year and they are just fine with homeschool people going (she knew they wouldn't all be grade 4).  We could get a group together and go.  I'm not certain that I am volunteering to organize a homeschool field trip, but I will put it out there for your interest and comments.  I know my kids would love to go.

Education Day Registration Package

There are a few changes this year. Please read all the information below carefully and send

back the registration form and payment in the proper manner.

Hello to all our medieval educators. It’s that time of year again, where we prepare for the

Education Day component of the Robin in the Hood Medieval Festival. Can you believe that we

are going into our 14th year? With the feedback and support that you have shown us in the past,

we are sure 2014’s event will be great success.

Do you want your students to experience what life was like during the Middle Ages? How would

you like your students to participate in hands on workshops? We offer chances to learn about all

aspects of medieval life from medieval dance, games, knight school, and much more.

When:

Thursday, May 29, 2014

9:15 to 9:45 am – Buses Arrive

10:00 am – Morning Session Begins

11:30 am – Lunch Hour and Entertainment

12:15 pm – Afternoon Session Begins

1:45 pm – Final Entertainment

2:15 pm – Buses leave

Where:

Gibson Park, First St. West, Elmira ON

What:

Each class will participate in six 25-minute workshops, three in the morning and three in the

afternoon. At lunch the students will be entertained by a knights’ tournament while they eat their

lunches. At the end of the day a final tournament is held before the students leave. This is an

outdoor event. Please prepare to be outside for the whole day and dress according to the weather.

Who:

Our education day is geared towards Grade 4 students studying medieval history as part of their

curriculum. The cost for this event is $8.00 per student which covers the full day event. All

teachers, supervisors and parent volunteers are given free admission. There is no limit to the

number of supervisors allowed at this event.

The Robin in the Hood Medieval Festival welcomes all educational groups to our festival’s

Education Day to join us and experience what life was like in the Middle Ages. It is important to

note, however, that our Education Day program is geared specifically towards the grade 4

curriculum and students too far outside of this age group may not be as engaged in the material

In recent years we have had concerns raised about students leaving their tour groups and

workshops for any number of reasons and, due to liability concerns, we have to request that all

children regardless of age remain with their group at all times (with the exception of bathroom

breaks).

How to Sign Up:

Just send the form below and with a cheque for the full amount through the mail to the Robin in

the Hood Education Day mailing address; 18-476 Kingscourt Dr., Waterloo, ON N2K 3R3.

Once your payment and forms are received you will be contacted by e-mail. You will be told one

of the following:

a) Your class is registered

b) You are on the waiting list

c) We are full for this year and your cheque will be returned.

If you are accepted into the program then you will receive a more detailed information package

by April 6th. Please note we will be signing schools up on a first registered and paid in full

basis

Please make cheques payable to Robin in the Hood Medieval Festival. Please send one cheque

per school (not per class) for the full amount.

Don't miss out. Every year we have to turn schools away because we're already full. Make sure

you're at the front of the line, and get your registration in early.

Thank you for your time and we hope to see you in June,

Sincerely,

Sarah Landy
